Pashmina Wrap (Nepal) |
|
| |
| Exceptionally airy and elegant, this pashmina stole is created in a soft, lightweight and inviting blend of 30-percent silk and 70-percent pashmina cashmere. An excellent accessory for any season, it can be worn as a stole, scarf, or short sarong, or used to decorate your home (drape it over a favorite chair or across a table). Three graded-color combinations are woven by hand in Nepal. Choose from pale teal with a delicate washed denim blue, coffee brown merging with natural cream, or a subtle mauve fading to warm orange. In the high altitudes of the Himalayas, mountain goats grow pashmina wool for warmth. It sheds naturally, or may be sheared with the seasons. These stoles are dyed and woven by an extended family group for Sana Hastakala. When a tradition is discovered by the fashion industry, factories start producing imitations in huge volumes, often displacing the original artisans who depend on the real fibre and traditional methods for their livelihoods. Machine-made pashmina (and synthetic variations) has posed a real threat to inter-generational Nepalese weavers. But a market remains among those who appreciate the original product and its inheritance. Sana Hastakala, an established Nepalese craft channel, is in search of this market. Worldstock saw innumerable pashminas and would-be pashminas in Nepal, but these weightless, richly colored stoles were a standout. Individual dyeing and weaving of these stoles may cause minor variations in size and color. All measurements are approximate. |
